Ibrahim Jilani has been with UL Solutions for 17 years and serves as the Global Director & Industry Leader for Consumer Technology. His role includes leading and developing UL in new technology and innovation for AR/VR/MR equipment, Audio/Video, Batteries, Consumer Electronics, Consumer/Commercial Robots, Data Centers, Electronic Controls, Information Technology, Laser/LED, Micromobility, & Printed Circuits.

Mr. Jilani serves UL’s mission and the market’s needs by addressing global industry matters, such as mitigating risk through product evaluation, testing and certification. He represents UL in a variety of industry trade groups such as Consumer Technology Association, VR/AR Association, National Association of Manufacturers, Retailer Industry Leadership Association, PeopleForBikes, and High-Density Packaging User Group. He is also a key contact for manufacturers, regulators, retailers and other product safety and regulatory stakeholders within the United States as well as around the world.

In the context of e-bikes, Ibrahim has championed safer e-bike design aiding in the development of the United States & Canada’s national standard for e-bikes, UL 2849, and an advocate for independent 3rd party certification to ensure e-bike manufacturer design have lowered risk of explosion and fire.

Ibrahim is a two-time winner of UL’s Mark of Excellence award given to UL employees who have addressed global industry challenges. He has a master’s degree in computer engineering from University of Illinois and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

Keynote description:
In 2022, the world has seen increasing e-bike system hazards that lead to fire and explosion incidents. Industry concerns over the public safety of e-bikes are mounting, with stories and headlines of property damage, injury, and even death originating from e-bikes becoming common occurrences. What is the root cause of all of this and why do these fires parallel the hoverboard crisis of 2015-2016? This talk will explore the global lessons learned from the hoverboard crisis and how it applies to e-bikes. In addition, this talk will explore the accredited United States & Canada national consensus product safety standard for e-Bikes, UL 2849.
