Keynote name:
Lithium Battery Safety: Transportation, Storage, and Charging
Keynote description:
Lithium ion batteries are the primary energy source for modern eBikes because they are reliable, affordable, and very energy dense. However, lithium ion batteries do pose certain safety hazards if they undergo a thermal runaway reaction. These reactions often include generation of extreme heat, flame, hazardous projectiles, and the emission of toxic and flammable gases. To account for these hazards, regulators have established rules regarding the safe transportation, storage, and charging of lithium ion batteries. This brief presentation will introduce regulatory requirements as well as industry best practices that your operation must be aware of to develop a safe and compliant lithium battery safety program.
